Menara Networks Announces Deployment Win for its OTN System-in-a-XFP in a Leading MSO Network in North America
Dallas, TX November 17, 2009— Menara Networks, a vertically integrated IP/Ethernet optical transport specialist, today announced that a leading North American Multi Service Operator (MSO) has selected the company's award winning OTN System-in-a-XFP modules to expand its multi-service network servicing enterprise, residential, and mobile customers.
The network upgrade consisted of populating IP/Ethernet Switch/Router with Menara’s award winning OTN System-in-a-XFP modules and connecting the routers over a wide area network as an alien wavelength over deployed DWDM optical infrastructure. The result, a simpler, more efficient transponder-less architecture resulting in faster service deployment, lower first cost, 50% less carbon foot-print, and substantial capital and operational savings associated with the elimination of the DWDM transponders. Menara’s 100% MSA compliant XFP transceivers transparently map native 10 GE LAN PHY signals from the Switch/Router into an ITU-T G.709 compliant OTN frame and perform all necessary Forward Error Correction and OAM processing. Menara's OTN XFP robustness to optical transmission impairments and outstanding system performance made the upgrade a true “plug-and-play” upgrade with no modifications to the existing optical physical network or the installed router base. Link performance monitoring was provided through Menara’s “Link Checker” feature, which allows for continuous monitoring, in real time, of each deployed wavelength Forward Error Correction margin.
